Decking Replacement

Brent’s existing deck had seen better days. His old Rotting Timber Deck was even sinking in places. As his preferred Deck Builder, the subfloor needed to reinforcement and to be repaired, hence nearly 1.5 tonnes of concrete was needed, Brent’s new deck feels extremely solid under-foot and has been built to last for decades to come. We like to built our clients decks properly, whether it is a timber deck or a composite deck.

Specrite Decking

Together with Brent, we decided to go ahead using SpecRite Merbau decking with hidden fixings. An engineered Merbau board, SpecRite is extremely strong and durable. SpecRite decking boasts amazing grain and colour variation that you just don’t see in today’s standard Merbau decking.

The ‘side-join’, or hidden fixing system makes for an amazingly clean finish. With barely any screws visible in the decking installation.

SpecRite’s hidden clips install much like those we use for most composite decks. They provide for even spacings and are long enough to completely cover and conceal the joists beneath.

Coming in such long and straight lengths, SpecRite Merbau decking allows for massive expanses to be installed without joins.

We love that Brent decided to invest that little bit more to use Merbau plinth boards. They add a huge amount of curb-appeal. Really bringing the facade of his home to life and add a huge ‘wow factor’.

SPECRITE MERBAU DECKING DETAILS

Brent chose to use premium SpecRite Merbau decking boards with hidden fixings. These decking boards have a groove on each side where fixing clips are placed. Allowing the screws to be placed in the spacings between the boards. Hidden from view.

Installed in much the same way as composite decking, hidden fixings provide the cleanest look for Merbau decking. No nails or screws detracting from the beautiful timber.

Hidden fixings also limit the use of ‘normal’ screws in the build. Meaning that there’s also less chance of boards splitting over time.

Brent was an amazing client to work with. It’s always a pleasure when clients get excited and involved in their projects. Together we were able to achieve an end result that we’re all immensely proud of.

Building a deck is a highly specialised form of carpentry. It takes years of learning and building to master. For us, it’s all about using the best quality materials and laying the right foundations. That means getting to know you, and spending the time getting the sub-floor absolutely right.

Decking is beautiful. But it’s what’s underneath; the groundwork, that matters most to us. As they say – “The beautiful rests on the foundations of the necessary.” Without a solid foundation, you will never achieve a flawless, lasting result that truly functions for you.
